Sacrifice As a Way of Life

The ideal of sacrifice for others is very old in our culture and in many others who preceded us in history from whom we drew inspiration. Those whom we remember with the greatest honor are often those who have personally chosen to bravely risk their own lives to “step between us and danger” when every rational thought would have prompted them to do exactly the opposite

There are many professions where such willing sacrifice for others is a cardinal value: law enforcement, fire fighters, emergency responders of all types; but the one profession where the ideal of sacrifice for others stands out as a bedrock value is that of our warriors. These men and women have personally pledged everything they have, down to their very lives, so that they might stand between us and those who would harm us all.
