You can make a difference!
Practice: Get ready for some activities.
Activities are designed to be parent- or teacher-supervised.
Activity 1
Step 1
Why Life Matters: Think about your life and the people you know. Each person makes a difference in a good or bad way. You can be light to the people who are around you. The little things you do can make a big difference to the people around you. YOU MATTER! Your life matters. There is an African proverb quoted by the Dalai Lama that says, “If you think you’re too small to make a difference, you haven’t spent the night with a mosquito.” You can cheer up a friend or family member who is sick or sad.Step 2
Option A:
- Ask your family if there is a friend or family member who needs encouragement.
- Brainstorm ideas about how you can show them you care (make a phone call, FaceTime, go visit, bake cookies, buy a gift card for a restaurant, make a card, etc.)
- Make a plan of action, and do it!
- Your life matters and you can make a difference!
Step 3
Option B
- Choose a Community service project by voting as a class and get the ball rolling to support a worthy cause
- Make sure to have a start and end date
- Examples: Canned food drive, donate socks for the homeless, donate pet food for local animal shelter
- You can make it a competition with other grade levels in the school, but then you have to count each item…
- Make a plan of action, and do it!
- Your life matters and you can make a difference!
Step 4
Notes: The children need ownership of this activity. Allow them to vote to choose the activity that is the most doable for you and your students. If it’s best to stay focused on close family and friends, choose that route; if it’s easy to go bigger to make a difference in the community, do that! Or if you have lots of family support, do both!
Activity 2
Watch the video and pay attention to the materials and supplies you will need.
