Review: Early America

While people have been exploring for years, in 1492, a man named Christopher Columbus asked the King and Queen of Spain to pay for his trip to find new trade routes to Asia. Columbus began his quest and journey on August 3, 1492, with three ships named the NiƱa, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. During this period in history, many countries in Europe sent explorers on trips to make discoveries and find new routes for trade. Explorers are the people who want to find and learn about new things. Sometimes these new things are located in unknown places — such as new people, food, and land.

America was settled by Europeans attempting to find new ways to trade supplies with other countries. They brought many things from their previous homes with them to America that influenced what America has and who its people are today. Christopher Columbus was one of many explorers who visited America. When arriving in part of early America and present-day Bahamas, Columbus and his crew met many new people on these lands – The Native Americans.

By the time European explorers arrived in the 15th century, scholars estimate that more than 50 million people were already living in the Americas.
