Warm-up: Have the students participate in the warm-up below
As a warm-up, have students independently write down their answers to the following question:
- What do you think the phrase “setting a precedent” means?
Have a classroom discussion with the following questions:
- What does the word “triumph” mean?
- How can you use the word “precedent” in other sentences?
- What do you think the phrase “setting a precedent” means? (Share what they wrote down.)
Students will see that everyone views “triumph” through a different lens. Explain to the class that by the end of these lessons, they will understand how triumph can be achieved, even after all hope seems lost.
