Variety And Differences
Practice: Get ready for some activities.
Activities are designed to be parent- or teacher-supervised.
Activity 1
Here is a list of the materials and supplies you will need: Ingredients for easy, kid-friendly fruit and vegetable dishes
Step One
Imagine if for every meal, people only ate one type of food. No variety, no new flavors, no fun! Eating different and new things can be hard, but it was good for the pilgrims and it is good for us too. Our differences make us better because we each bring our own variety, strengths, and backgrounds. This helps with the foods we eat, but more importantly, with hard circumstances, our differences can help create solutions in life.
Step Two
Each child chooses their favorite easy kid-friendly food or recipe that involves a vegetable or a fruit. (No sugary desserts, just fresh or dried fruit or fresh vegetables or easy-to-prepare cooked veggies)
Step Three
Gather ingredients and do teamwork to prepare easy dishes (Green beans, corn, salad, fresh-cut vegetables or fruit on a toothpick or dried fruit)
Step Four
Everyone has to be polite and try new things (take at least one bite and be kind, even if you know you don’t enjoy that food)
Step Five
Choosing to embrace our differences and respecting each other with kindness about food choices will help us accept differences in other areas. We all have strengths and weaknesses, but together we bring beautiful variety!
