Christopher Columbus was trying to find a new path to Asia but instead found America.
While we sometimes say Columbus discovered America, there were actually already people living there when Columbus first arrived.
The Native Americans had lived in America for thousands of years before Columbus first landed there, and other explorers had visited America before. Even so, Christopher Columbus’ trip started the exploration of America.
In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue.
