The Original Colonies: Review Time
`
The Pilgrims (turned colonists) owe much of their new life in early America to the Native Americans. Beyond the initial years, the progression of life led to the success of Plymouth Colony and paved the way for further colonial expansion.
Life as a colonist was vastly different from life in England and other parts of Europe; so, the colonists had to adapt. Their homes were different; their foods and supplies were different; their lands were different. Their systems of government were also forming differently.
Colonists such as William Bradford and Myles Standish became early leaders in the Plymouth colony, demonstrating their leadership qualities even before they boarded the Mayflower. These leadership skills continued through efforts such as the Mayflower Compact and treaties and agreements with the Native Americans. Strong leaders in government, culture, and society emerged during the settling of early America. We see the impact of these heroes on the America we know today.
