Welcome Little Patriots to Lewis, Clark & Sacagawea!
What if your mom and dad said, “We’re moving to Peru!” How would you feel? Would you be excited about the adventure? What questions would you have? (What will our house be like? Do they even play soccer? Can we take our dog? What is school going to be like? Do they eat strange foods? Do they speak English? Is it weird when their summer is our winter? Are there mountains or beaches? Is it hot or cold? Are the animals dangerous? Will the people there like me?)
These are many of the same questions that Lewis and Clark were asked to answer on their expedition of the new land Thomas Jefferson bought. The main goal was to find a route all the way to the Pacific Ocean, but along the way they found out about the weather, animals, plants, and land forms so that people could plan to move there. They made a map and met with Native American tribes. (Fun fact: Lewis did take his dog, Seaman, on the expedition, and had an encounter with a grizzly bear, but there is no word on the soccer team.)
