Welcome Little Patriots to the Constitution!
Liberty is going to help us learn a bit more about the document that established the new system of government in the United States, following our independence from the British. Time to start learning!
Warm-up: Have the students participate in the warm-up below
As a warm-up, have students independently write down their answers to the following question:
- What do you think the phrase “Bill of Rights” means?
Have a classroom discussion with the following questions:
- What does the word “bill” mean?
- What does the word “rights” mean?
- How can you use the word “rights” in other sentences?
- What do you think the phrase “Bill of Rights” means? (Share what they wrote down.)
Students will see that everyone views “rights” through a different lens. Explain to the class that by the end of these lessons they will probably have a new understanding of the word “rights” and why these are so important for all Americans.
